Caps v. Wings

The Husband has always been a big NHL fan.  He loves hockey.  Having been born and raised in the Great Lakes State, the Red Wings is his team of choice.   Since he moved to the DC area in 1994 (to meet and marry me, of course), he’s adopted the awesome Washington Capitals as his [...]

In heaven

A friend of mine recently passed away.  It wasn’t completely unexpected, but she is in pain no more and she is with God in heaven.   Nonetheless, death is never easy and her family and friends are grieving now. This morning, I was quieter than normal at breakfast as I thought about her and the upcoming [...]

Padded Envelope

Here’s my morning so far: I realized I haven’t sent my parents their Christmas present yet. (I know, I know.  That’s a whole other issue.) So I went to go find it. It’s scattered over the three floors of my home but I collect it all. Then I search for a padded envelope to put [...]

Uninspired

I have tried to write a post several times the past few days. Lots of ideas floating around in my head, but none have made it to the blog.  In no particular order: …the Inauguration, living in the DC area and all that entails… …finally picking up Twilight and reading it… …the downed US Airways [...]

Well, judging by the number of hits this blog gets versus the number of comments received, you’re probably a lurker. “In Internet culture, a lurker is a person who reads discussions on a message [...]

Instant silence

As babies, each of my kids had (or has!) a song that would immediately quiet them down.  BabyMuffin will stop  whatever he’s doing to look me straight in the eye if I break into “Closer to Fine,” by The Indigo Girls.  It’s often the only way I can him to stop squirming long enough to [...]

My friend Jessica of A Parent In Silver Spring fame has issued a Kindness Challenge…which she herself got from her friend Becky…who got it from Patience.  Did you follow that train? Here’s how it goes:  just post in your own blog or comment here with an Act of Kindness you have given or received, and [...]

Tradition!

I love traditions and the holidays are a great time of year filled with many traditions.  As a family with small children, we’ve been creating our own that I hope will be customs in our home for many years to come. This morning, I celebrated a different kind of tradition.  It’s one that has been [...]
