I’m an Asian American and have been taught to take my shoes off as soon as I enter a home. The kids are being trained to do so as well, since it helps keep the floors cleaner throughout the house. The Husband is not such a big fan of doing this, but does just to make me happy.

Something that does not make me happy, however, is the resulting clutter of shoes, bags, coats, hats, etc, that can easily accumulate in the foyer. So now Bito and Cupcake each have a canvas basket on the floor of the foyer. They know to remove their shoes and put them in the basket as soon as they get inside. Above their baskets are hooks installed at their level (I got unfinished wooden ones at Michael’s). Voila! No shoes to trip over, no bags in the way, no small children clamoring when we get home asking me where to put this and that!

I love that! We take our shoes off too and I need to come up with something like this to contain the shoes that get strewn all over the downstairs!

WHat a neat idea. We have a tiny foyer and I wish it were big enough to acoomadate some storage.

    Great WFMW post.

Awesome system! We remove our shoes at the front door too and I am always trying new systems. This one seems just about perfect.

BTW, I look forward to meeting you at BlogHer DC! My fingers are crossed that my hub’s sched allows me to attend.
