Caps v. Wings

The Husband has always been a big NHL fan.  He loves hockey.  Having been born and raised in the Great Lakes State, the Red Wings is his team of choice.

Since he moved to the DC area in 1994 (to meet and marry me, of course), he’s adopted the awesome Washington Capitals as his second favorite team.  Clearly I have an opinion about that.

Whenever the Wings come to town, we make an effort to get tickets and go see our two teams face off.  Today was the day!  We farmed out our three darlings to friends and family, and we were off.  Of course, The Husband was decked out in his Wings gear and I was in my Caps jersey.  We got some strange looks as we made our way to the Verizon Center and up to our nosebleed seats.

The Husband cheered vociferiously for the Wings as I rooted for the Caps heartily.  As the game drew to an exciting finish, I began to dread the hours to follow.

Because, you see, the Caps won 4-2.  This meant The Husband was pouty that his favorite team lost.

It’s hard for me to be happy about the exhilirating Caps win when The Husband is obviously irritated and in a funk over his team’s loss.  It makes me wonder if going to these games is worth it.  Even if I did wear the Red Wings ball cap and The Husband sported the Capitals hat–our nods to each other’s teams.

  1. It’s like that here too. I’m a Redskins fan, husband is a Cowboys fan (yes I married him knowing that). It’s tough when the other’s team loses but it’s only a game. We don’t take it too personally…unless it’s a playoff game. LOL :)
