Interesting post. I am always puzzled by the fact how little we know about our parents lives. They had 20, 30 40 or even more years before we were born and we will only know about that time by being told about it. They are so close but also strangers? Is that good, bad or just the way live evolves?

As I have said on other posts, there is a fine line between knowing about our parents' past and knowing too much before we are old enough to handle the information.

Check out my post on my Dad's nine marriages at www.readgritandgrace.blogspot.com

Great post!

what an interesting thought! I don't think I've ever really put much thought into my parents' lives before they were "mom" and "dad"

My mom came to the US as a young girl and I know very little about her life in Venezuela. And even when I ask she doesn't offer much up. I know even less about my dad's childhood in the Chicago suburbs and never think to as because we just assume that it was 'normal," but who ever has a "normal" life? I just hope one day that through my blog and photos my kids will be able to piece my life together.

Great post! Interesting the things we don't know about our parents. My dad came to the US as a teenager, and I hardly know anything about his life before he came. You are lucky you had the trip with them!

I believe in Santa too. There is also some Grinch in me though. For example, I can't help but wonder how many new layaway accounts were created, by those that don't necessarily need it, with the hope that some stranger would pay for it. Go away Grinch! I actually have a friend that payed off some Kmart layaway accounts. She feels awesome.

I talk with my family every year about adopting a family for Christmas. Someday, we will. For now, we participate in all of the toy drives our organizations are coordinating (church, Cub Scouts and karate), and pick an organization to donate money to. This year was the Church Camp Aaron went to last summer.

I cannot imagine heartbreak like that, and I'm so glad that time has healed it for you! I've lost some people dear to me, and I think that is one of the worst parts - the waiting for time to do its thing. Nothing else will fix that hurt, and time goes soooo slowly!
