Tomorrow is Father’s Day.
I did not ask The Husband what he’d like for this day. I figure it’s a Hallmark Holiday and doesn’t need a lot of merrymaking for it.
Still, I wanted to take the opportunity to recognize The Husband and his awesome fathering, so I prepared a few things this week:
- Pictures of our offspring wearing tee-shirts that have pro-Daddy slogans on them were taken. And they are holding large wooden letters which spell out DAD. I’ve done this photo for the past two years, and since this is the first year where there are three kids for the three letters, I’m pretty excited.
- The kids picked out a tee-shirt for The Husband, since he’s been complaining that all his “play clothes” need to be replaced. Bito thoughtfully picked out a blue Life is Good shirt, with a graphic of a guy jumping off a deck into water (since there is nothing better than swimming for Bito, and blue is his favorite color).
- I went out of my way to find a good pair of sandals at a great price for The Husband. He has a tendency to wear crappy summer sandals which contribute to his foot and knee problems. But, he refuses to spend more than about $10 but sandals due to his frugal (read: cheap) nature.
- A beautiful roast is thawing as I type, to be cooked into one of his favorite homemade meals tomorrow.
I thought I was doing pretty well. Then, tonight, as The Husband was leaving to run a couple of quick errands, he mentioned a favorite restaurant of his that might be nice for Father’s Day tomorrow. I stammered and said I wasn’t planning on having us go out. Awkward silence ensued, followed by him trying to airily say, “Oh, that’s okay.”
Great, just great. Is it really okay or do I need to change up the plans to include this restaurant? *sigh* I thought we’d moved past disappointing each other on holidays at this point in our marriage! I look forward to the day when the kids are old enough to take care of all the Father’s Day arrangements themselves!
