…hate me because my kids are champion sleepers.

I know I’ve been incredibly blessed to have children who love their sleep and sleep well. I hope I don’t jinx it by talking about it here!

Bito is our firstborn, and from the moment he came home from the birthing center, he was an easy-breezy baby (his birth is another story, however!). He was content to be held. He was content to be laid down. He ate well. He hit all his milestones at the right times. And he slept. Oh how he slept. It was simply a matter of nursing him, cuddling for a bit and then laying him down. That was it. He’d go to sleep and stay asleep for long stretches of time. By the time he was three months old, he’d easily sleep the entire night through. Naps were also not a problem. He’d go down easily and sleep for good chunks of time. I didn’t bother reading any of the recommended sleep books because there just wasn’t any need. Bito is still a rock star sleeper. He falls asleep easily, sleeps like a log and rarely wakes at night.

Cupcake, our secondborn, was also pretty easy as far as babies go! She-who-has-an-opinion-about-everything made it clear from early on that when she wanted to sleep, she was to be put down and left alone. There was no cuddling, no rocking, no nursing to sleep. She’d eat all business-like and then demand to be put down. Since I had two-year old Bito to deal with then, I was fine with this arrangement. I did break open my copy of Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child to see how Cupcake’s naps should be developing and ensured her naps were uninterrupted (as if she’d let me!). The one thing we had to be careful of was her ability to wake easily. Simply opening her bedroom door to look at her would cause her to awaken and cry out. We quickly learned to leave her alone and she started sleeping through the night as a young infant. Cupcake still sleeps well but is prone to waking easily, especially if she is sick or upset about something.

I’m happy to report that BabyMuffin seems to be following in his siblings footsteps so far. He is sleeping well at night and his daytime naps are developing normally. He likes being cuddled to sleep, which I’m happy for since he’s my last baby and I want these baby snuggles! But BabyMuffin doesn’t mind if I have to put him down quickly. He just rolls over, closes his eyes and drifts off to sleep.

I think this is why I need to quit having babies. Three for three on great sleepers…don’t want to take the risk of a higher needs baby at this point in my life!

I’m jealous of your sleepers and easy-going kids. My girls would be their polar opposites. They’re horrible sleepers–no matter what we tried, and maybe because of it, are not easy-going. They’re lucky they’re cute. You won the jackpot as far as kids go: adorable and easy-going. ;)

Ugh… sleep. You are so blessed to have good sleepers! Now, when do **I** get to get enough sleep?

My first two were awesome. This little girl (in my arms, ‘postabsleeping at 7 AM) notsomuch. I guess I can’t complain too much. ;)
