I try, and really, I want a clean home. I’ve had limited-to-no-success trying the Fly Lady, Motivated Moms, and my own personal housekeeping system.
The problem is not in the system I use to clean each day.
The problem is my motivation to do it every day.
Thankfully, The Husband doesn’t expect me to have the house in tip-top shape when he comes home from work each day. Truth be told, he does more housework around here than I do. He’s awesome like that.
It’s not like housework is ever Done. The moment you’ve completed a task or finished cleaning a room, something else needs to be polished, dusted, wiped or picked-up. Toys always find their way back to the floor. Clothes are always worn and need to be laundered. Dishes that we eat off of have to be washed. There will never be a time when I will be able to sit down and say, “That’s it! I have completed every single bit of housework that needs to be done, forever!”
It’s rather daunting. I have no motivation to do a task that I know will be Undone and replaced by another task sooner rather than later. Just doesn’t seem like it’s worth it.

We are cut from the same cloth. I’m neat but don’t care for cleaning. My husband also does more than I do (good guys). I guess I just keep up with the clutter/piles before they take over. You should see how much can fit in a closet when guests are ready to arrive
I don’t think anyone’s house is ever “done” – you’re not alone.
See, I just blame my lack of enthusiasm for housework on my “Free to Be You and Me” record that I listened to over and over as a child. The poem “Housework” as recited by Carol Channing is the culprit. (http://tinyurl.com/5gml3g) At least that’s what my mom feared. But really, I think most people don’t like housework and the poem just reflects that.
Don’t give up and give yourself a break
Do what I’m doing right now and blame all the dust on the fact that we’re inside more b/c it’s getting colder
Hey, I work with http://www.mochaclub.org, a non-profit that works in Africa. I saw that you were on the NaBloPoMo list, and we’d love for you to blog about our new campaign on Nov. 24th. The campaign is centered around this idea – at Mocha Club, we have always cared about building an accurate perception of both the challenges that Africans face, and the BEAUTY of Africa. We need bloggers to help get the word out. Please email me at barrett[at]mochaclub[dot]org if you would be interested in hearing the details!
