I have no idea what I am doing

I am (fairly) new to the (public) blogosphere…and I’m not sure how to respond directly to people when they leave comments here. I am used to doing this in my private journal and feel rude when folks leave comments here and I don’t respond. So I did the install thing with Haloscan thinking perhaps they could help me with my dilemma…but now all my previous comments are gone and my blog looks weird and I’m too tired to figure it out.
