A friend of mine recently passed away. It wasn’t completely unexpected, but she is in pain no more and she is with God in heaven. Nonetheless, death is never easy and her family and friends are grieving now.
This morning, I was quieter than normal at breakfast as I thought about her and the upcoming memorial service. Cupcake noticed my silence and asked me what’s wrong. I told her I was sad because my friend, Ms. K, had died and gone to heaven.
Cupcake thought about this for a moment, and then piped up, “Kitty* is in heaven too. Maybe Kitty and Ms. K have found each other there.”
I smiled and told her I’d like to think that Kitty is now sitting in Ms. K’s lap. Cupcake said, “Yes, she will like that. Kitty is happy Ms. K is there now. And you will find a new friend soon, Mommy.”
Thanks, Cupcake.

I’m sorry about your friend. You’re right, it’s never easy. Your kids are so wise. That made me smile too.
