Mentors

The Husband has started mentoring a twenty-something year old guy from our church. This fellow is right out of college and making his way in the real world. It’s pretty cool seeing life through the eyes of someone just beginning their journey as an adult. I’d forgotten the perspective and idealism a young person has. It’s been fun–and frightening–remembering my own life when I was that age. Oh the mistakes I made, and the carefree life I lived!

I’ve also been pleased to reconnect with a old friend from college through Facebook. She is younger than I am by a few years. We became friends when her brother (also a friend of mine) asked me to take her under my wing when she arrived on campus. She and I had a sort of big sister-little sister relationship, although I learned as much from her as I hope she did from me.

I love the idea of mentoring relationships even though I know they can be delicately balanced between friendship and teacher/student. I wish the right person would step up to me and become my mentor. There are days where I just wonder if I’m doing this Wife and Mommy thing correctly…or even good enough! To have someone who’s been through it and could give me some practical tips would be very welcome.
