Olympic gold

We’re having a good time watching the Olympics around here. I confess that I’m uber-impressed with watching the human body do cool things: contorting to different shapes in diving, gliding across the water of the pool at amazing speeds, showing incredible amounts of strength in gymnastics, reacting quickly in badminton…

This makes me realize what my poor, middle-aged, cholesterol laden body can’t do and I get a bit depressed.

But wait. This body of mine housed three babies! It fed two babies and is currently sustaining a third. I, who used to be a sound sleeper, now have the ability to hear the slightest noise made by one of my offspring in the dead of night. I instinctively know how they are feeling and when they need a little extra attention or comfort. My lips can accurately gauge if my child has a fever. My eagle sharp eyes can pick them out in a crowded mall play area. This body of mine is able to juggle a baby on a hip as it corrals two mobile youngsters.

So I might not be representing the U.S.A. in Beijing this summer, but upon further reflection, I realize I am proud of what my body does.

Too bad it’s not a medal event.
